MPASI Recipe for 7 Months: Super Delicious Potato and Liver Croquettes & Rich in Iron

Looking for an iron-rich complementary food for babies 7 months and older? Potato and Liver Croquettes could be a favorite! This combination of chicken liver , potatoes , and broccoli is not only delicious but also supports your baby's nutritional growth and development. It can be made into a smooth porridge for classic complementary foods or as finger food for baby-led weaning (BLW) .

Ingredients (for ±100–120gr / 1 portion):

  • 60 grams of potatoes (steamed, mashed)

  • 40 grams of chicken liver (boiled/stir-fried until cooked)

  • 10 grams of finely chopped broccoli

  • 90–100 ml homemade chicken stock

  • A little oil (for sautéing or pan-frying BLW)

Aromatic Seasoning (remove before serving):

  • Garlic

  • Ginger

  • Bay leaf

  • Crushed lemongrass

How to Make Potato and Liver Croquettes:

  1. Steam and Mash the Potatoes:
Boil or steam the potatoes until soft, then mash them according to the texture of your baby's MPASI.

  2. Stir-fry the spices and cook the chicken liver:
Sauté garlic, ginger, bay leaves, and lemongrass in a little oil until fragrant. Add the chicken livers and cook until cooked through and no longer smells fishy. Remove from heat.

  3. Mix Broccoli & Broth:
Add the chopped broccoli and potatoes to the chicken livers. Stir well. Gradually add the chicken stock until the desired consistency is reached.

  4. Customize Texture:

    • For Pureed baby food: Blend the mixture with a little broth until smooth and soft.

    • For BLW (croquettes): Take the thick dough, shape it into a flat ball, and pan-fry in a little oil until golden brown. You can coat it with egg (optional) if your baby is ready to eat.

Nutritional Benefits:

  • Chicken Liver: High source of heme iron, vitamin A, folate, and protein.

  • Potatoes: Complex carbohydrates, vitamins C & B6 for baby energy.

  • Broccoli: Antioxidants, fiber, and vitamin C for immune system.

  • Aromatic Seasoning: Provides natural flavor without salt and supports digestion.

💡 Tips:

  • Chicken liver can be soaked in lime juice briefly before cooking to reduce the fishy smell.

  • Do not add salt, sugar, or instant flavoring.

  • Suitable for batch-cooking and can be frozen in small portions.
