6 mo Baby Weaning Recipe: Homemade Chicken Broth Rich in Flavor and Nutrition

Chicken broth is a flavorful and nutritious base, perfect for 6-month-old babies who are just starting solid foods. This recipe is easy to make and can be used as a mix for various solid foods and BLW dishes, making it a favorite for parents who want to provide the best nutrition for their little ones.

Ingredients:

  • 1 free-range chicken frame (chicken meat can be filleted and saved for another recipe)
  • 2 liters of boiled water
  • 1 stalk of spring onion (take the green part, cut into large pieces)
  • 1 carrot (peel, cut into large pieces)
  • 1 clove garlic (optional, for aroma)
  • 1 onion (optional, for aroma)
  • a bunch of celery leaves (optional, for aroma)

How to make:

  1. Wash the Chicken:
Clean the chicken with running water to remove dirt.

  2. Boiled Chicken:
Put the chicken in a pan with boiled water and all the ingredients.

  3. Cook the Broth:
Simmer for 1–1.5 hours to create a rich broth. Be sure to skim off any foam or fat that appears on the surface to keep the broth clear.

  4. Strain the Broth:
Once done, strain the broth to separate the dregs into 3 parts meat, vegetables, and bones then cool. Peel the meat part to be blended and strain again for the second time until smooth. Discard the meat dregs that are not strained.

  5. Mix the ground meat into the sauce and save:
Store the broth in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator (keeps for up to 2 days) or freeze in ice cube trays for longer use.

Use of Chicken Broth:

  • MPASI Mix: Use as a liquid to make rice porridge, vegetable puree, or soup.
  • BLW: Serve as a dip or sauce for finger food.

Important Tips:

  • Use free-range chicken for a more savory and nutrient-rich broth.
  • Avoid adding salt or other seasonings, to keep it safe for babies.

Benefits of This Recipe:

  • Chicken Broth: Rich in minerals such as calcium and magnesium, good for baby's bone growth.
  • Carrots: Adds natural sweetness and extra nutrients.
  • Garlic (optional): Supports baby's digestive health.
