9+ Month Baby Recipe: Potato–Beef Patties – Nutritious, Soft & Perfect for Self-Feeding

Made from a combination of steamed potatoes, minced meat, aromatic onions, and carrots , the texture is flexible—it can be made soft for a 9-month-old baby who is developing texture or served as finger food for little ones who have started eating independently.


Ingredients (1–2 servings of BLW, ±90–120 gr)

  • 70g potatoes, cut and steamed

  • 10–15 grams of minced beef

  • 10 grams of steamed carrots

  • 1 clove of garlic

  • 1 shallot

  • 1–2 tsp unsalted butter (for sautéing)

  • A little water/stock (optional, to soften the dough)

Use homemade stock for tastier and safer results.


How to make

1. Steam the Main Ingredients

Steam the potatoes and carrots until very soft. Set aside.

2. Saute the aromatic spices

Heat unsalted butter.
Saute shallots and garlic until fragrant.
Add the minced meat, cook until it changes color.

3. Mix & Puree

Mash the steamed potatoes until soft.
Add finely chopped carrots and sauteed meat.
Stir until it becomes a patty dough.
Add a little stock if it's too dry.

4. Shape the Dough

Flat round shape or mini size.
The result is about 6–8 mini perkedel .

5. Cook Again (optional)

Select one of the methods:

  • Pan-fry with a little butter

  • Airfryer 180°C for 8–10 minutes

  • Steam again for the softest texture (babies who are not ready for BLW)


Customize Texture

Age 9–12 Months (Mashed–Lumpy Stage)

  • Squeeze the perkedel with a fork to a lumpy texture (soft but not smooth).

  • Add a little stock if necessary.

  • Suitable for babies who are still being fed or starting to learn to eat on their own.

Age 24 Months (Toddler 2 Years+)

  • Perkedel can be served whole as finger food.

  • Cut into bite-size pieces for safe chewing practice.

  • You can add a few light herbs (oregano/basil) or a sprinkle of cheese for variety.

  • Can be used as a side dish for lunch, provisions, or afternoon snacks.

BLW (Baby-Led Weaning)

  • Serve the mini perkedel whole or in stick form for easy grip.

  • Make sure the texture is very soft , easy to crush with two fingers.
